Blood on the Prairie: A Novel of the Sioux Uprising

Exactly 157 years ago today, on December 26, 1862, during the American Civil War, 38 Sioux Indians were executed in a public hanging at Main and Front Streets in the town of Mankato, Minnesota. The execution was ordered by President Abraham Lincoln and carried out by the Union Army. This execution is controversial to this day. It remains the largest legally sanctioned execution in U.S. history.
