August Begins 151 years Since Minnesota's Great Sioux Uprising of 1862

Background: Scale model of the gallows on which 38 Sioux warriors were hung on December 26, 1862. (Left) recreation of a commemorative lithograph picture of the hanging at Mankato, Minnesota.
(Right) recreation of the granite monument erected at North Front and Main Streets, Mankato Minnesota. The monument was there for decades until it disappeared during urban renewal in Mankato in the 1980's. Disappearance of the monument does not change what happened here. This was the largest mass execution in U.S. history.
