This is how the largest execution in US history was carried out

This hanging took place  at Mankato Minnesota on December 26, 1862 after the Dakota Conflict, or great Sioux massacre earlier that year. President Lincoln ordered the Union Army to carry out the execution of 38 Sioux warriors involved in the massacre. This working scale model of the gallows is on display at the Blue Earth County Historical Society in Mankato. 2012 marked the 150th anniversary of the Dakota Conflict.
