Timeline: August 26-31 Dakota Conflict, Sioux Uprising

"Ryker, about that burial detail we discussed," Sibley said. "You know this territory like the back of your glove. Tomorrow, I want you to lead major Joseph Brown, Captain Hiram Grant, and a detachment of a hundred and fifty men of Company A of the Third Minnesota Volunteers on a burial detail, relieve any other survivors and refugees you come across, and try to get a bearing on the Dakota. Bury all the bodies you find and proceed to Birch Coulee. As soon as the reinforcements and supplies I requisitioned arrive from Fort Snelling, we'll join you and help scout out that area. I want to inspect the territory as far north as Olivia before we mount an offensive against Little Crow."
"It ain't a pleasant task, but it's the right thing to do for these poor victims." Ryker saluted the commander.  "Aye sir, we'll head out come first light in the morning."
