Sioux Uprising, Dakota Conflict, American Civil War

"The next day, August the 26th, Ryker led Colonel Sibley and the troops from St. Peter and across the plains until they reached the trail to Fort Ridgley, a federal  fort located on the frontier west and upriver from New Ulm. Sibley decided to move across the plains now that he had a sizable fighting force, knowing that any attack by the Dakota could be overcome." (Excerpt from "Blood on the Prairie - A Novel of the Sioux Uprising" for this date, August 26th, one hundred and fifty years ago.)
