Timeline: Sioux Uprising, Dakota Conflict, August 19-21, 1862

August 19, 1862 - Minnesota Governor Alexander Ramsey appoints Colonel Henry Sibley to command American volunteer forces for the Indian Expedition. 16 settlers are killed by Dakota in and around New Ulm, MN. Settlers crowd in and around a barricaded area on New Ulm's main street.

August 20-21, 1862 - Dakota attach Fort Ridgley, but the fort is successfully defended.
