Timeline: Battle of Birch Coulee September 1862
September 2 and 3, 1862 the battle of Birch Coulee was fought between the Indian forces of Little Crow and a burial detail sent out from Fort Ridgely by Colonel Henry Sibley. The battle was fought on the prairie north of Morton Minnesota. The battle lasted 36 hours. Historians tell us the battle was won by Little Crow's warriors.
