What kind of people were victims of the Dakota Conflict?

Every kind imaginable, from whites to Indians, to soldiers to settlers, to volunteers, to men, women, and children, and they all shared one common trait...their humanity. They were ordinary people like you and me caught up in anything but ordinary circumstances who coped with life, and death, as best they could.
